ABOUT DOWNYFIELD CARRIAGES
Downyfield Carriages are a family run firm based in the North West of England and we provide exclusive horse drawn carriage hire and classic car hire services. We also offer livery stables which are available to rent with secure tack/feed room and full use of an indoor school and summer turn out including 24hr CCTV.
From our base in Morecambe, Lancashire, we can service locations across North Lancashire, South Cumbria and surrounding areas travelling further if required. We have over 32 years of experience breeding and training immaculate carriage horses. We also specialise in luxury car hire that can be trimmed to match your colour scheme. Our exquisite horse-drawn carriages and luxury classic cars are available to hire for weddings, funerals, proms and any other occasion you can imagine, including birthdays and anniversaries. We are also available to hire for filming and TV work
Our luxury cars are in immaculate condition and expertly driven. Our cars are fully insured and safety checked and are driven by fully trained, uniformed chauffeurs. We pride ourselves on our reputation for excellent customer service and reliability.
ABOUT MICK
Downyfield Carriages is owned by Mr. Mick Gorry, a businessman who also runs a successful haulage company, J. M. Gorry and Son. This company was established in 1969 and is very much a family business with the 3rdgeneration now involved in the running of the company.
Born on Maple Avenue in the West End of Morecambe, Mick grew up around the local area and from a very young age he developed a passion for horses. His earliest memories are of working with his Father, Joe, on his horse and flat lorry delivering “Provin” to the local bakeries down Euston Road and throughout the Morecambe area. Joe Gorry also used to drive tourists Landaus on Morecambe promenade, Mick would often accompany his Dad and his good friend Jack Stamper, a Morecambe legend famed for his landau and charabanc business. They did a good trade during the town’s heyday. These early years inspired a lifelong passion for horses and Mick now owns an extensive collection of horse drawn vehicles which are fully restored and in pristine condition.

Our History
With over 32 years of experience in this profession, Downyfield Carriages have grown to be one of the largest providers of horse-drawn carriage hire in the North West. We are very proud of our excellent reputation for quality, tradition, and attention to detail. Turning out carriage horses is an extremely specialised task and requires precision, patience and years of experience. The Coachmen who will drive on your special day are extremely proficient and will ensure that everything goes precisely to plan. All our horses, carriages and coachmen are turned out to the highest possible standards.
Micks spectacular horses were used in an episode of inspector Poirot filmed at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe and also used in a documentary production to celebrate the centenary of the great Victorian poet, John Ruskin.
